USB Mouse not working in Vista but USB keyboard works fine

I have a Dell D620 running Vista.
System recognizes the USB keyboard just fine but wont recognize the USB mouse.
Device manager see's the USB device but doesnt know what it is.
I have reloaded the chipset sw and installed the MS mouse drivers with no joy.
All hardware is known good and tested on identicle machine.

I went a step further and Installed a Blue tooth mouse, th is detected system says ready for use, but still does not work.

I've got a Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook and it will not install the mouse driver for a wireless. Three wireless mice work fine on XP boxes but not on Vista and any wired mouse works on the Vista notebook. Dell said they'd have to get back to me.

System Restore Fix

Evidently, one of the 87 Windows Vista updates caused my problem, unfortunately, the only restore point that worked was the FIRST one. The only thing done after that was Windows updates. I'm going to start over and see where it stops working.
