    usb network?

    Locked

i was lying in the bath the other night just pondering the universe and i thought, why cant you connect two computers via the usb port and create a basic network? i dont mean a screaming full blown network, its just that i’m short of room in my present computer (all ide full) and could use the extra space for other stuff. yes i do have network cards and can work them. i just wondered if anyone else had thought about this possibility? Hi, perhaps intel engineers get their ideas while bathing also. Anyway, it’s available (and probably more sources than intel). Anyway, intel’s product is called phoneline 10 Mbps USB model (need usb ports and a phoneline). More information is available at http://www.intel.com Search under networking, then home networks.

I’ve done it at home with a USB network card for about $49 (yeah, they cost more than a cheap NIC). I did it for another reason: I was nearly out of interupts on my new Compaq after installing a NIC for accessing the internet via cable modem. With the NIC, Rewritable CD, DVD, Etc, etc I couldn’t find an interrupt to use. I now have three computers all sharing internet access and access to each other’s hard drives, printer, scanner, etc.
