USB Port & Thumb Drive

I have a Win XP Pro system, with the latest Microsoft patches. The system has an Intel 2.5 mhz processor and Intel Motherboard. When a USB drive, namely the Lexar Jumpdrive Pro 2.0 is inserted in the front ports, the message “USB Device Not Recognized” appears. This also happens on a Win XP Pro unit with a 3.05 mhz processor and Intel Motherboard. Both system have the latest Microsoft service packs/patches installed. On similar PCs out of the box, the unit works!!! It appears that something in either WinXP or a WinXP patch or some Microsoft software (Office) has caused the problem. Any ideas, please!!!!!
