USB Port & Thumb Drive

By LIMiller ·
I have a Win XP Pro system, with the latest Microsoft patches. The system has an Intel 2.5 mhz processor and Intel Motherboard. When a USB drive, namely the Lexar Jumpdrive Pro 2.0 is inserted in the front ports, the message "USB Device Not Recognized" appears. This also happens on a Win XP Pro unit with a 3.05 mhz processor and Intel Motherboard. Both system have the latest Microsoft service packs/patches installed. On similar PCs out of the box, the unit works!!! It appears that something in either WinXP or a WinXP patch or some Microsoft software (Office) has caused the problem. Any ideas, please!!!!!
Thanks.

Try downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturers website.

This can sometimes happen when the USB settings in your bios are not set correctly. On Intel boards they have a 480 mb per second setting and a 15.6 mega bits per second ...... try changing these.

I had the same problem last month with the same ThumbDrive. Look to see if you have the file "usbstor.inf" in your %Windir%\inf directory. The %Windir% will be either \Windows or \Winnt. Use this file to install the ThumbDrive. Hope this helps.

The .inf file on my PC is the same one as on another unit on which the Thumbdrive works. Also, in device manager, the unit comes up as "unknown device" under USB controller.
