USB Ports dead

by wlportwashington . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I have a Dell XPS 200 with XP Media Center on it. I started the system up and had the blue screen of death with a code of 0x24. I was able to run chkdsk /r off of the original CD. Now the login screen shows up, but the USB mouse and keyboard are dead.

I am able to get into setup (f2) the boot menus (f12) and (f8), was able to check that the USB controller was active in the BIOS. When I go into f8, and try safe mode, I still cannot use the keyboard or mouse. I tried “Last Know Good…” and that did not help.

Next I tried a power drain by pulling the power cord, holding the power button in for 30+ seconds and that did not help.

Just for the heck of it, I tried a BartPE CD to browse the hard drive. The mouse and keyboard works under Bart only. I am not able to browse the Hard Drive at all.

Short of doing an O/S reload, what else can I try?
