I have a order in for DirectPC internet connection which connects to my PC via USB and would like to share it on my 5 node network without software (ie by not having to have the PC that is connected to the DirectPC modem not on all the time). Does anyone know if that is possible or have any ideas on how I could do this?

Startech makes a hardware Internet sharing device that might work, but I think it would replace the DirectPC, so it probably isn't what you want.
Why not just leave the PC on all the time?
You could try a Wake on Lan type thing to start up your PC when needed, and then power it off after 10 minuites of inactivity or something. But really any benefit you'd get from that would be duplicated by just using the PC's built in powersave in the first place.
