USB Support with Windows ME

By mongous ·
I have an AMB 1.2 Ghz machine running Windows ME and it won't recognize the USB port. In the device manager it show the USB controller as working properly but the USB root hub has a problem. It states the device loader (NTKERN.VXD) could not load the device driver. So naturally it won't recognize any device attached to the USB port. I am assuming this is the root of my problem.(?) (no pun intended!)

USB Support with Windows ME

The first thing I would do is check your CMOS setting. Windows ME will detect and install USB even though it is disabled in the CMOS, so make sure it is enabled. Also check your mainboard maker for driver updates and patches. AMD CPU boards tend to be very picky about what drivers they use. so make sure you have the latest ones.

good luck

A common problem with ME. The registry key may be missing or you need the following patch from Microsoft.
2729**.usa

Thanks to nsantos for your help. I checked the CMOS and setting is correct. There is no reference to the maker of my motherboard, even in the manual! No reference to it on AMD's site either. Thanks anyway!

Where can I find the patch? I can't find it anywhere on the MS site, even called tech support and they couldn't either!

Check in device manager-system, as they are
in alphabetical order should be the last entries.
if not loading properly will have a yellow ?mark, may mean a fault in the m/board driver disk, my pci usb card did not need a disk as it was plug and play, using the O/S generic driver, this also could be a faulty cab file
Luck
