Time Warp problem maybe...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to USB to 25pin Female Paral ...

I think you MAY be attempting the impossible but there are a few possibilities.

Most of the old bubblejets were manufactured long before XP and as such you are probably suffering from bad printer drivers.

The idea that XP can handle 'legacy' routines is all well and good - if you can find the drivers to back up the claim.

I suggest you try this link for the 'bjc 4200':

drivers.softpedia.com/get/PRINTER/CANON/Canon-BJC4200.shtml

For the 'bjc 225sp' I suggest you try either:

OR
members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=74739

Let me know if these work.

Bi-Directional

by TheChas In reply to USB to 25pin Female Paral ...

Canon printers of these series required direct communications to the PC over a bi-directional parallel port. They would not even work with most local printer sharing appliances, including automatic switches because they only supported the data to the printer function.

Also, depending on the OS, and what driver you are using, the driver may be having trouble with the virtual printer port through the USB port.

My best recommendation would be to install a parallel port card in the computer so that the Canon driver can work directly with the port.
