Use of Administrator Account

By ntswil2 ·
I have a number of "System Administrators" who currently use the Administrator user account to complete tasks. I want to stop this practise. How can I restrict the use of the administrator account with out compromising its use by applications. I don't want to rename it. How can I hide this account?

Use of Administrator Account

Hi,

As a first step, you could add each of the system administrator's personal accounts into the Administrators group.

This will give them the same functionality as before. Then you'll be free to change the Administrator's password - be careful doing that, though. You may upset applications that rely on its old value with hardcoded passwords.

Second step would be to look at each of your system administrators and narrow down what they're actually doing. Assign them appropriate rights and permissions.

Cheers,
Tim.

Another good idead is to give the quasi-admins two accounts. The first is their normal day to day acount. That way the don't always run with super user privledges (virus realy love that). The second is something like adm_User. This is an account just for them that has the privledges they NEED, not WANT. Enable permission use auditing on these accounts and ensure that they are only being used when needed.
