User authentication through LDAP/ RADIUS

By deroode ·
On our campus we have a central LDAP and RADIUS authentication server on Solaris. It is used to authenticate users on our mail servers, calendar server, remote dial-in and the like.

We want to use this service to authenticate our Novell NDS users. Is this possible, and if so, how. What products do we need, and how are they configured? Can you provide links to documentation?

I know it is possible to install eDirectory on Solaris, but this is not allowed by the Solaris administrators, as it reverses the desired direction of authentication (solaris users are then authenticated by NDS).

The only route which I see is replication from the Sun LDAP to NDS (sorry eDirectory), so that the users have the same userid/password in each and their NDS logon means an automatic passthrough logon to the Sun LDAP. Novell's DirXML does this job for you.

As the Novell client does not recognize external (non-eDirectory) LDAP servers, this is the only way out I'm afraid. However look well how much you need the Novell client; NW6 and iFolder allow simpler logon mechanisms though not as secure as the normal Novell client.

Have fun,

You might be able to use DirXML connectors between the LDAP and NDS. Check out:

I am not sure if this would work with LDAP as the primary directory though.
