User can no longer write to folder

    Locked

    by ktew ·

Does anyone know how to fix this problem. I have a user that has been able to write to a shared folder until this week. This folder resides on a Windows 2003 server (not AD). She now gets the message that she does not have permission to write to this folder. She is in a group that has special permissions to this folder and all others in that group can write to it without any problems. I have been battleing this for a week now and cannot seem to find anyone that can tell me where to look or what to do to fix it. Help!!

A starting point might be to check to see if there are any other groups assigned to this folder with deny permissions?

If so I would check to see if she got added to one of those groups.

Deny will always over right allow.

I have check and there are no other groups except Administrators and she does not belong to that group. I have also gone into properties of the folder and highlited the group and did the inherited for the child. Hope this makes sense, as I am trying to use my memory, which is old. Any more suggestions? Please.

best way to sort out this tim of problem is to re-create the user.

In the SHARE permissions make sure that the user has full control. In the Folder NTFS permissions, make sure that they have the appropriate premisssions. The most restrictive premission set in sharing takes effect (if you only have read access to the share you only can read files even though you may have full control of the files in NTFS.)

Well, I have been troubleshooting this since 6 am this morning with no luck. I have looked for any deny on all folders, users, and groups, there are none. I have removed the user from the group and rebooted her machine and logged back in as her, no change. I have disconnected her mappings and remapped as the administrator of the server, that user could not write to the folder. The message I am getting is Unable to create the folder “New Folder” Access is denied. I am beginning to think it has something to do with her own machine. This user could write up until last last week and then something happened and now she cannot write to the folder. I have had her log into a different machine and map the drives but she still has the problem. Do you think a rollback on her machine might help? Thanks,

I finaly got the problem fixed. It was the machine at her desk. It needed the Windows XP SP2 and not just the hotfixes. I would like to thank everyone for your assistance.
