user denied access to exchange 5.5 srvr

By pasasant ·
We have a network that is running Windows NT 4.and Exchange 5.5 on a new server. The Exchange server is used for mail and calendar access. THe
calendar is in the secretary's public folder on the server. She uses it to set up meetings. The problem is that she cannot no longer access her account at all. She uses outlook on her workstation, but she is denied access. for a while
it was a periodic problem, where she sometimes get connected and then she cannot. Plus, various users cannot get to view the calendar and some can. The issue is inconsistent. The NT server has
SP6 and Exchg. server has sp3, There are plenty of licenses. What can I do to resolve this?
I was thrown it to fix this problem recently.
Any ideas? I will take any.

user denied access to exchange 5.5 srvr

Is the "public" folder in the secretary's mailbox, or is it in the Exchange Server public folders area? The answer to your question depends on this answer. First of all, if the secretary is having a problem accessing her mailbox on the server, it could be caused by a couple of different issues. If there is a mailbox size limit set on the server, her mailbox could be periodically going over this limit. That will cause it to be unavailable to anyone else, although she should still be able to log on to it. Check the server limits and see if this might be part of the problem. The mailbox itself could just be corrupted or have some corrupted messages or entries in it. I would try the following: first, in the Exchange Administrator program, add an account that has Exchange System Admin privileges as a user of the mailbox. Log on to her workstation with that admin-level account and see if the mailbox opens. If it does, try exporting the calendar and any other info she needs to a .pst file. Then, create a new mailbox for her and import the .pst back into the new mailbox. If the mailbox won't open, even with Admin privileges, then you simply have to create a new mailbox for her and start fresh. You also need to check the permissions for her calendar folder to make sure everyone who needs access is set up with the correct permissions - this can be done from Outlook on the workstation.

If the calendar is actually a public folder, you need to check all the permissions to make sure that they are set up so that everyone can access that public folder who needs to. You can set this from the Exchange Admin. program by opening the properties of the public folder and then click the Client Permissions button.

Also, just because you should, load Exchange SP4.

Hope this helps!
