User got kicked out network

By cherylxcheng ·
We are currently runnuing a Winnt 4.0 network with SP6a, MS Exchange, and MS SQL 6.5, etc. (basically an all Microsoft Shop). About 4 days ago we had a user that would randomly get booted off the network and his account would become locked.

We removed another machine that had the same name as the users machine from the network. An application was run to give the remaining machine a new SID. This machine was then added to the domain. Within 30 minutes the user was kicked off the network and the account was once again locked.

As a workaround, we created a new account for this user and gave his existing email account an additional alias. This seems to be working for now. However, we have experienced three more incidences of this happening, one existing user an two new users.

Do you have any idea as to why this is happening.

Hi, well my first thought is, have the dynamics of your network changed. For example, do you have account policies set up the restrict users' hours or end dates assigned or is the user logging off to do something and then forgetting password and getting locked out? I suspect something to do with account policies since you have not had the problems since creating the new account. I'd go back and look at account policy in user manager for domains as well as several of the user accounts to double-check things. Hope this helps.

Check the replication between the PDC and the BDC. If there is a difference in the date/time (the BDC ahead of the PDC) this can whack things out.

It wouldn't hurt if you try putting a new NIC on the faulty machine!
