Hi,
In one of our XP installed PC’c, with simple file sharing, I had just wanted to open a paralel printer to sharing. System asked me to only to enable printer sharing and I had replied with yes. Everything was OK.
Today, this computer’s user wanted to share a folder with a userid and passwd. I have disabled the simple sharing; defined a user and gave a password to that user; and restarted.
However, when I try to access to this computer, it doesn’t ask user/password. It opens the computer, but when you click the shared folder’s name it gives an error saying ?t cannot access to that folder.
There is no problem with the ones that we had not just enabled the printer sharing with the simple sharing effective.
Is there a solution to this problem?
TIA,
User/Paswd File Sharing in WinXP Wrkgrp?
Hi, We have 3 Computers running WinXP Pro and working in a Workgroup. They are connected with a hub and each have a direct connection to the Internet.
They want to share folders with each other like in W98/W2K. However, In WinXP sharing diaolog box, I cannot set the user names and their privileges who may logon this XP machine. So, when we enable file sharing, other users (running w98-wxp) can see the shared folders without prompted for User/Passwd logon prompt.
When setting the folder sharing, Only the basic properties of sharing are listed; ie: 1- share this folder 2- allow other users to change the folder content.
Is there a way to solve this problem, other than going back to W2K Prof.
TIA,
