I support my hospital’s Radiology transcription area, and have guided them through the changes in locations of macros and templates with each new version of MS Office. (It does seem that the gods of Redmond are fickle) I have even lead them into thepromised land of voice transcription.
All was peaceful until a month ago. It was necessary to completely redo four of five voice transcription PCs because Windows and Office started acting strangely. Our tech support guys took all of the PCs anddid their voodoo and re-installed all the Microsoft products. When they returned the PCs, I noticed something odd.
When we initially installed Office 2000, all the users profile folders would automatically be setup with a group of nested folders for application data similar to this pathway:
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
We took this into consideration when we set up our templates and macros. When the PCs were returned two of the four continued to do this. But the remaining two do not setup these nested folders, instead they point all users to the profile of whoever signed on to the PC first. I did not believe this to be a problem at first, but we are experiencing problems that seem to be relatedto this difference in pathway.
Tech support swears that they installed exactly the same versions of Windows and Office. I even supervised the reinstall of the Office product on one of the PCs. No difference. I checked the MS info window in “About?”, all the Build versions are the same. Our Tech Support has no explanation.
Any suggestions?
