User profile migration to new PCs – transition to Windows 11 is imminent
Finally my management has gotten to prioritize, looking at the fact that transition to Windows 11 is imminent and there is less than a year to go, we have started looking into replacing/reinstalling of some 700 PCs on our domain.
Appr. 150 will upgrade directly and we did start that process but the majority will be replaced or at least have their disk replaced and be reinstalled, due to insufficient disk space.
As Managements criteria is that the users are helped settling in on their new PC, we spend half a day setting up users, when replacing their PC.. I find the task we look into is enormous.
What way, if any, is there to move over a users identity from the old PC?
I get that they get their profile, data on OneDrive and mail when logging in, but we help users with file/browser shortcuts/favorites, cached browser credentials, and also check for stray documents accidentally saved locally on the PC.Sadly it happens all the time that something is being missed and, normally at replacements, we therefore store the old PC for ~3 months.
