User Profiles

I have a server Win NT 4.0 With local cached profiles. When people are loggin off ther profiles dont delete. I end up with user.000 all the way to user.037. I just started admin on this machine but it has been in production for awhile.
This problem has exsisted for awhile also.
What would be going on and where can I go to fix it.
