User Profiles

By maddiuex ·
Hi
need to copy user profiles.
Have windows 2k pro, workstations, non Roaming. I build a user, with apps, desktop, Connectoids, etc.. and want to use that user profile on that machine for all users. I have copied the user by user profiles, made sure that all users can use it. Copied it to Default user, All users, Test User. But everytime it copies over other areas, so sometimes I have double icons on desktop. I need help.

User Profiles

Here's what I have done in the past: Add a new user (whether from your domain, or creating a new local user) to your local administrative group.

If you have icons set up, verify that they are NOT in c:\documents and settings\all users\desktop (start menu, etc.) - otherwise, you will have duplicate icons. My logic is that if you move one to all users, you should move them all, or don't do it at all.

Set all your preferences, printers, connectoids, etc. Log out.

Log back into the PC as your local administrator account.

Right-click on 'My Computer' and then click on 'Properties,' then 'User Profiles.' Find your user account that you generated all your preferences with. Hit the 'Copy to' button - when it asks you where to copyit to, select the c:\documents and settings\default user profile.

Now log in as a new user, hopefully all your preferences will be there.

Let us know how it goes!

Rob
