User profiles Problem

By gazza7 ·

When I set user profiles up in Control panel through the password icon and rsstart the PC the monitor settings change. The monitor lights just flash, the monitor dosn't seem to cope with the settings and gives me a black screen. If I then start up in safe mode and take the user profiles off and restart, the monitor works OK. Does seting profiles adjust the monitos frequency, this seems very weird to me. I thought the profiles would take the defaults settings from windows. The monitor and graphics card can cope with up to 1024*768 setting without any problems, but I usualy run the machines at 800*600.

could you have a manditory profile on there? or a screwed up default profile. it does not change monitor settings that i am aware of. look for .man file extension...

You can try the following:

The main problem you have here is resolution problem, your monitor setting light blinking when you load into Windows and you get a blank screen.

1. Enable the user profile.
2. Load into Windows, if encounter blank screen, restart in Safe Mode. Adjust screen resolution to the lowest (640x480).
3. Restart again in normal mode, adjust the resolution back to 800x600.

Try avoid 1024x768.

If none of the other suggestions work.. I would be inclined to say some of your system files are damaged. Simply turning on user profiles should not affect any monitor settings.
I assume you are using win98 although it would be useful to specify in future.
To repair your system files put in your windows cd and run setup.
