Locked

Users logoff when logoff hours are over.

By courtney ·
I am trying to force some users to logoffo their computer at night b/c they keep fogetting to do it. I set their profile to not allow logon from 11pm to 1am in AD users. I then set the group policy to Enabled: Auto log off users when logon expires (local).

I used me to test and I left my PC locked but logged in. When I came here this morning. I was still ogged in.

What am I missing!!!

silly question... i take it you are the admin so you could apply these changes to the system...

1. what os are you running?

2. Are you logged in as an admin, not a user?

you said your pc wouldn't log off... was wondering if you were logged onto that workstation as an admin or a user... that would have an effect as admins are above rules unless specified.

You say you put the users to log off at that time... Have you tried putting the computernames themselves to logoff rather than the users?

What os are the workstations running as there may be an in-between compatability issue here or are they all 2k?

To restrict the logon hours for multiple users in the same OU
In Active Directory Users and Computers, select the user accounts, and then right-click any of the selected items.
Use the Properties of Multiple Objects dialog box to alter the properties for all of the selected users.
When you restrict logon hours, you might also want to force users to log off after a certain point. If you apply this policy, users cannot log on to a new computer, but they can stay logged on even during restricted logon hours. To force users to log off when logon hours expire for their account, apply the Network security: Force logoff when logon hours expire policy.

OR... click start run and set logon and logoff times to suit each person's ration:

A simple Monday Friday ration might be... net user kidnumberone /time:M-F,17:00-17:30

that should work for you

Remember, for these changes to properly take effect, after modifying the policys, If you haven't forced a shutdown or pushed the policies out, the computer must be restarted to properly install the policies locally to that machine.

Yeah I am the Admin and it is Win2K Server. The Group Policy is the Domain Policy.

Users that are staying connected after 11pm are causeing my backup to fail. That is why I want them logged off.

They are all Win XP Pro. I am a DOmain User and have local Admin rights.

I have not tried having the computers log off and not the users. I will try that.
