Users, What’s wrong with them?

Users.

As IT professionals we have to deal with them. Most of us do try to help them get their work done, solve their problems and educate them. We try to understand what they are going thru.
And most of them are understanding.

But what do you do with those that you can’t help? You know the type. The user who loathes their IT dept. They feel that they are the most important thing in the world. You can’t possibly solve their problem. They know better then you how computers work and how you should fix them. Their the ones who refuse to listen and gripe the loudest.

In my job I’ve run across the gammut. I’ve heard the lines “I’ve been working with computers for 10 years”, “Why can’t you fix it?”. I’ve even been called a nit-wit by a user who can’t plug her mouse in.

I’m curious what it is about users that makes their brain leave their head. I would never tell my doctor that he is wrong. So why do users find it necessary to disobey our instructions, do what they want, then blame us when things go wrong?

It’s gripe time folks. Let us hear your take on the inners workings of the user. Let us hear your favorite stories about users. We all have them. I know I can write a novel.
