Using a Dedicated Server - Active Directory?

By mt88 ·
Hi,

I am thinking about using an offsite dedicated server hosted through a 3rd party to host my websites and setup an active directory for a small network (under 10 users). Is this possible or do I have to house the server locally?

Doing what?

If the website pages are for internal use, rather than general-public use, it may make sense to house the machine locally. If the pages are for an intranet, and that's why you want AD too, try both scenarios.

Alternatively, if the price is too high, you might consider a VPN solution for offsite AD. network bandwidth may be an issue, though. There are many pitfalls, and the cost savings may not be as great as you expect.

Why not just get a small-office server and install it on-site? Use remote control to manage it, if it's a long trip to the customer site.
