Using a laptop to view camcorder video

By smithg ·
I am looking for a solution that will allow me to use my firewire connection from my Sony DV camcorder to view (not capture) the video on my laptop screen.
I will be traveling to Africa and this will be the only way to view video other than the camera LCD.

I take it that you need a Firewire Port on your NB right?

You can pick up a PCMCIA Firewire Card that will allow a direct connection to the NB the description is as follows:-

'DOUBLE H' Firewire PCMCIA Card 3x IEEE1394 (Firewire) Ports, supports up to 400Mbps transfer rate. Sorry but there is no link to this item but they are freely available.

If you have a mini Firewire Port on the NB you can buy a cable to connect the Camcorder directly to the Mini Firewire Socket.
