Using a web page to submit Access data

By TechDir ·
Although I have worked with Access (not extensively), I am facing a new challenge. I have been asked to create an Access database that will accept information via a web page hosted on a NetWare web server. I know it is relatively easy to create a database in Access and export a "portal page" to put on an NT server. How would I go about doing this on a NetWare platform?

Thanks in advance.

Using a web page to submit Access data

Hi,
Write your web pages using asp, the languages you can use vary, i do alot of pages like this and use a mix of vbscript and java,
basically you create a odbc connection on the web server to the database file, then program the web pages viaasp to do lookups, updates...etc..a good easy book to start with wis from wrox, beginning asp databases, this book uses mostly vb script but it will get you started, if you need multiple buttons on a page you will need to mix in java.
Thankyou for the post! jer

Since you do not have the means to use asp ...

I would say that you'll have to rely on CGI, or webbots (if available). The visitors input would be stored in a delimited text file. The delimited text could be linked (linked, not necessarily imported) to your Access .mdb.

You could then query the data as you would a normal database table. With the exception of updating it.

Further, this has the advantage of maintaining security, where the use of ASP
would require creating read/write permissions in the Access .mdb directory.
