Using CCleaner.

By Ron K. ·
When I use CCleaner my most recently used progams disappear from the Start menu/when I click the Start button, in the lefthand column. This has happened before and I managed to get them back but I just can not remember how to do it.
Normally, if I use Adobe Photoshop, for an example, the shortcut appears when I click the Start button. Now it doesn't.
Please help. I've tried everything that I can think of doing.

It turns out that I didn't try everything I know.

I just thought that I had. I did a System Restore to a snapshot made earlier today. The Start button works as it should.
I'm fairly certain that is not my previous solution but it worked, so I'm good.
Now I'm off to adjust CCleaner's settings so that it won't happen again.

Start menu shortcuts

Is probably what you had checked. I'm careful not to check that one. I leave the desktop shortcuts box unchecked, too, since I don't have any.

I do have freespace checked. Takes a while to run, though. Cookies, too. Means I have to re-log into TR, my homepage, and one other place you go to.

It is camouflaged, Ron.

"Personalize" is the key word. (You'd think "frequently/recently used", no?)

In XP, it's in the Start button menu settings → Customize → "Use Personalized Menus" checkbox. I think I only remember what it is called because I always turn it off. Too bad I missed your post until now, it would have been a payoff for having that lodged in my head.

Edit: But CCleaner didn't just clear the list, it actually turned the setting off? I couldn't know as I don't use that setting CCleaner which santee mentioned, either. OK, re-reading, I guess it did turn it off.

You may want to avoid Menu Order Cache as well, if you arrange your Programs at all. (I am very picky about my menus.)
