Using DHCP with dual DNS on Win2K ?

By net-tekkie ·
We have a need to specify 2 DNS servers on our Win2K clients. When we do this using pure DHCP, names don't resolve. IPCONFIG shows the 2 DNS servers properly. Dual DNS works fine if statically defined and it works fine on NT machines. Is Win2K quirky in this regard?

What types of names are not resolving?
Are you able to resolve internal machine names?

It sounds like all your DNS traffic is pointing to the internal DNS servers and those servers do not have a way to forward those request to an exteranl DNS server.

You probally need to create a lookup record for unknown hosts on the internal DNS servers that point to a DNS server that is updated from a upstream internet server.

You can test this by pointing one of your clients to your ISP's DNS server and see if it can then reslove a internet host name. If so, you need to add that forwarding lookup record to your internal DNS servers.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!
