Using RSS as a Notification for HD Tickets and SNMP traps for Critical HW

I wanted to know if anybody out there has ever used RSS as a quick tech tool for getting alerts on hardware or help desk tickets. RSS, the Helpdesk and Cisco HW all spit out or use XML, so it seems like it may be pretty simple. My goal is to have a RSS tool that can be customized to detect the Helpdesk ticket stream and use key words like Email, RAS, Sharepoint and then allow my peers to subscribe based on their work assignments.

As for SNMP and HW, the RSS tools would be setup to look for events from local devices in our various offices, so the site IT managers don't get bombarded by notifications from stuff around the globe.

Anybody have any insights?
