Using sysprep to upgrade system

I’ve tried using using sysprep on win 2000 when upgrading a mother board & cpu but maintaining the same hard drive, or when moving a hard drive from an older system to one with a different chip set and componets. I still continue to get the blue “inaccessable boot device” screen. Is there some type of procedure that I should do to windows 2000 or the sysprep application for the system to run properly? Or is there a procedure that’s better than sysprep you’re changing motherboards on a system that has a hard drive that runs win 2000?
