Using Unknown Flash in BIOS

by zeus709 . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

I have a M7VIG 400 Motherboard, with Phoenix-AwardBIOS v6.00PG

After changing my Hard Drive from 40Gb to 160
Gb, I had read that some motherbboards cant accomodate Hard Drives over 137Gb; which is way I sought out the BIOS upgrade to allow my motherboard to accomodate a HD larger than 137Gb.

Upon Flashing my BIOS with what I thought was the correct Flash BIOS file; my computer freezes on the BIOS Splash screen. I also noticed that the NumLock light wasn’t on.
So, I pressed it and it came on, which took me to the next screen which displayed the HDs(2) and CD&DVD(2) drives it recognized.

Beneath this list was the message “Floppy Disc(s) failed (80)” followed by a list of choices press F1 to continued, F8 to Configure System, etc.

The only way to get the computer to work was to press the “F1” key. Which took me to the “Hardware Monitor” sceen which displayed the message “Unknown Flash type” followed by “Boot from CD”. When I pressed Enter it would continued to bootup correctly.

However, once I got to the desktop and selected My Computer my “A” drive was not displayed. At this time, I went to Device Manager, only to discover the Standard Floppy Controller has a yellow exclamation point next to it followed by the message “this device can’t start (10)”

If I can’t access my “A” drive I have no way of reformatting my computer which I have had to do after picking up a virus. I have McAfee Internet Suite with a Firewall and Virus Scan.

Can someone please help me with this problem. I have search the Web in vain, you are my last hope.
