Using Win2k to make a dial-in server

By XinMan ·
I've created a dial-in server on Win2k server, and it works great but the problem I am having is that I only have one phone line in my house and if someone calls and I don't pick up by the second ring my computer picks up. I'm wondering if there isa way to make it so that the computer knows if it is another computer calling to not pick up but if it is a computer calling to pick up and start talking.
Please help.

Using Win2k to make a dial-in server

Hello -

what you need is a device that sit between your wall jack and your PC & Telephone. This device will pick up the incoming ring and detect whether or not it hears a data stream, fax tones or just a plain voice call. I did a quick google search on "voice data switch" and came up with a few links you can check out...

Or you can call your phone company to set up distinctive ring on your line so you basically have two numbers, one for your voice and one for your PC. This way if your modem supports the distinctive ring features, the PC will only pick up when it hears the ring ring instead of jst the typical single ring...now gimme my points...
