Could someone tell me if i should expect problems running vb.net under xp home edn.

You should have no problems at all with the run-time version.

If you plan to write VB.Net code, your system resources are more critical.

AS a uni student studying an introduction to programming basic code writing would be included also flie processing and generic algorithms. Do i need to upgrade my OS ?

To write VB.net code, you need Visual Studio.net

Visual Studio.net has some limitations with XP Home.
So, yes, you may want / need to upgrade your OS.

If you are planning to use a different programming tool, check the system requirements for that tool.
