VCD file format — cant play

I have a Windows 98 system with the latest version of both Windows Media Player and Quick time . I am unable to play files of ‘.VCD formats’ with either Media Player or Quick time . The error message I am getting says that the “file format is unsupported ” . All other media files are playing all right and beautifully . I have no problems with my hardware either — all tested . What should I do ?
