Veritas backup exec for windows vers. 9

By mex_carnal ·
Hello,

I have been having problems with Veritas backup software. I am running differential backups Tues-Fri and FUll backups Monday's.

Problem is that differentials are running successful but full backups run and then suddenly stop's notifying Labling Media in the Job status. I have checked the setting it is set to Overwrite data in media. Does anybody know what is going on that's preventing my backups to finish successfully?

Thanks

Even though you have set to overwrite the tape the
software will not overwrite backups that are still active.
All of the backups on the tape have got to be expired. I
set the backups to expire a week before I expect to use
the tape.

Well the tape is in a media where its in Infinite append. so there is no expiration date. also before i start running the backup i do a complete erase to the media.

you could expire the backups after six days.

Why would you choose infinite append? That doesn't
make sense.

Erasing the tape in Backup Exec is not going to change
the tape label. Initializing the tape will give you the
chance to change the tape label.

Erasing the tape will not clear the old backup
information from the Backup Exec database.

Change your method to be more traditional. There's no
point to doing things differently than everyone else.
Just make your full backups and set them to expire in
six days.

Actually you should have at least two sets of tapes, so
your backups should expire after thirteen days.
