I been using Windows DHCP Server since the days of Windows NT. Windows DHCP is very reliable, but the GUI is very lacking. I assumed the GUI would be improved with Windows 2000. Was wrong. Again thought there’d be major changes with Windows 2003 but it’s still exactly the same as it was with NT.
I have used the DHCP that is part of Kerio Winroute Firewall and the DHCP features were excellent. However I now use MS ISA Server so I’m back to using Windows DHCP.
One very simple feature Winroute has that I wish I could get with Windows DHCP is that if I wish to give one of the computer with a lease a reservation I simply double click on the lease and type in the new IP Address. No need to memorize and type in the MAC address, which can be a major bother if you have to create several reservations, especially since Windows DHCP doesn’t copy and paste.
Does anyone know of any decent DHCP software out there to suit my needs? I have tried out a few I found online but those I’ve come across so far don’t quite make the grade. I would rather not have to install a firewall software just to use its DHCP function.
