Video and Sound has the Jitters

By chriskepu ·
I have a problem with the sound and video from a dvd when using my 5.1 sound card.

When I select the onboard sound card, dvd plays fine but when I select the pci sound card, picture and sound gets the jitters.

Has anyone come across this problem before?

You should disable the On Board Sound

Before fitting a PCI sound Card. If you have both lots of software installed it sounds as if you have a Good Old Software Conflict occurring.

If you don't have both software loads installed check that you have the newest drivers that suit your OS from the sound card maker.

Knowing what OS you are using would also help no end.

Info on OS and tasks

Hi Col,

As mentioned, when the PCI sound card with surround sound is selected, the problem occurs when trying to play DVD in WMP or even DVD software.

When you mention software, are you meaning WMP, DVD software or do you mean drivers?

All drivers have been updated, so the machine is running the newest drivers. The OS running is Windows XP.

The PCI sound card is a Creative 5.1 sound blaster. The DVD ROM is a Liteon 18x DVD.

I hope this helps with my issue.

As the Sound Blaster 5.1 is at the end of life and has no further software

Updates available just make sure that you have the last of the drivers that are available from here

Also download & install VLC Media Player available from here

And see if the problem continues. I've never had much luck with getting Windows Media Player to play DVD's properly and this Open Source Player works quite well.
