Somewhat after the fact but ... You could probably have done the process with 9 pin to 15 pin adaptor ($2-$5 at an elect store).
Even that may not work, depends on how the 9 pin maps to the 15. The port may require signals on the extra 4 pins to work. You would have to determine what they are and rig provide somehow (done on modem devices by wiring a pin to another to provide missing signal (at expense of detect functionality)).

What you need is a pinout (what signal is on what pin) for the monitor and port. You may be able to get from Mfg of monitor / port but ... May also be able to take it to a PC Repair, they would have knowlege or access to documents to resolve.

Hi you don't say what make and model the monitor is. if it is old it may not work at VGA frequencys.

but to start

pin 1 = Red
pin 2 = Green
pin 3 = Blue
pin 10 = black
you are left with Yellow, Orange, & purple

pin 13 is H-Sync
pin 14 is V-Sync
and the spare cable may need to be connected to ground. If you are lucky then where the cable connects to the circuit board it may have the signals written.

Hope this helps

Rich
