Video card shows device error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

By Slayer_ ·
I figured I'd grab the old card from my dead system and stick it in the live one, The card was good a few months ago...
Anyways, I hooked it up so I could tie in the TV in my bedroom as a third monitor, just for watching downloaded TV shows, the old card should have more than enough power for that.

XP finds and installs the drivers, no updated drivers for it, but it just says it won't start. Any ideas?

Currently monitor 2 (And HDTV in another room) is turned off, so I am running as single monitor right now. Cables to TV and older video card are attached. Maybe the old card needs a VGA cable plugged in before it will activate?

an ATI and an NVidia in the same system !?!
is almost a 100% guarantee for a device conflict

it's best to use multiple cards from the same
use 2 ATI or 2 NVidia

start > run > msinfo32

look for device conflicts
if the NVidia is taking / getting exclusive access to the resources
- memory address ranges,
- IRQs,
etc.

the ATI is probably locked out by the NVidia
and can't start because it doesn't have access to the resources that are already used

a g search for:
ATI and NVidia cards in same system
About 17,400,000 results (0.23 seconds)

and there are pages and pages of people having problems trying to run an ATI and an NVidia in the same system
