    Video Card Suggestion

My question is this; what will improve streaming video content over the internet more, video card or connection speed? I have a cable modem with 256 down/128 up. I use a Linksys Cable/DSL router to share the connection between four computers. Video card of machine used to view video is Diamond Stealth III S540 w/32 MB RAM. I have tested my connection using both East and West coast sites (www.dslreports.com) and received 283 KBps and 288 KBps respectively. Machine is Epox MVP-3G2 MB with AMD K6-2 500. Viewing live streaming video, the picture is somewhat blocky even though our frame rate exceeds that of the encoded video. Using Realplayer 8 Plus to view stream. I have tried both 3DFx VooDoo 5500 and ATI Rage Fury Pro but really madeno difference. I have applied the tweaks to the registry concerning DefaultRCVWindow and this improved the fram rate and quality some but could still be better. Am I chasing my tail or is there a hardware/software combination I need to make this better?

Video Memory, Connection look good, but couple of quick questions?

      1. If video still blocky if 1 machine is receiving?

      2. Router configuration could be a source, but I doubt it. Can you adjust your config where 1 machine receives the full 256 download, or does it remain segmented at 56k per machine.

      3. Video memory, selection of cards is excellent. No comments/suggestions.

      4. Have you investigated RealServer? It will allow you to download, store, and forward streaming content.
      5. What are the variables from different sites. While your specs/hardware etc may be perfect, you still are faced by limitations placed by download site, intermediate router hops, and your ISP.

I agree with the above post. All are good suggestions. One thing that you may look into is the setup of your realplayer. How much buffering do you have? The more the better (Usually).

Note… If you are pulling a live feed… you will need to reset buffer back to default as sometimes content will not play if you set the buffer above default.

My opinion (and it may stink) is that they have some more R&D to do before Realplayer is good. I have had good connections and still suffered from blocky video, skipping video, and missing or late sound. I just don’t think that the pipe (internet) is big enough or fast enough just yet.
