Video Card Trouble

by jschmitt . Updated 23 years, 10 months ago

I have an AMD 900mhz ATX with 256MB of ram with a GA-7dx motherboard and running XP Pro. Recently I made the mistake of plugging my GPS into the serial connection while the machine and GPS were on. The computer blew up. When the computer rebooted the bootup process went fine until it went past the XP loading screen and the monitor went blank although the light remained green on the monitor. I discovered after booting in safe mode that if I disabled the video card (LeadTek Nvidia GeForxce 2 MX on AGP slot) in the device manager the computer worked fine albeit without the 3D accelerator working. I thought I had blown the card so I got myself a new one and last night while installing I could not load the card properly. XP informed me that thecard was not loaded properly because of invalid data and warned me the card may not work properly. I enabled the card after that and poof the machine did the same thing as it did with the old card. Only now I cannot get it to go into safe mode with the new or old card. I see the bootup until the XP loadin screen and I cannot force it into safe mode. Do I have a blown AGP slot? Thanks, Joe
