Video card vs onboard video

By bobbyglitter9 ·
I have a GeForce MX400 128MB PCI video card and I just got a new motherboard which has the NVIDIA? GeForce? 7050 / nForce? 610i Chipset. Should I junk this old GPU for the onboard till I can get a new video card? I ask because I can't get the ethernet working on my new motherboard (Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2) and I want to put in a separate ethernet card, and my motherboard only has 2 pci slots, 1 being used up by extra USB ports, 1 by the video card. So which is a better choice for my video?

would be to use the Onboard Graphics until you can get a new one. Have you installed the Motherboard Drivers from the CD.

Yeah

I tried to install the drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard, and I tried more recently updated drivers to no avail. I'm going to try flashing the bios tomorrow and doing a fresh install of everything, windows and drivers. Thanks for the response

Your Problem is probably because of the Video Card

by OH Smeg In reply to Yeah

The old PCI Cards use different IRQ's and so on so a Video Card in the same PCI Slot will use a different IRQ to a LAN Card.

Try removing the Video Card and see if the LAN Now works it most likely will. If you absolutely need to use that Video Card with the M'Boards LAN you need to go into Device Manager look at the actual Device and Allocate it System Resources Manually not Automatically. You will most likely have to do this for a lot of the Devices that are installed in this computer as one change can affect several different items all of which need to be reset to work again.

Also with Onboard LAN you need to use the same type of PCI Card as you have built onto the M'Board so if you Have Gigabit LAN on the M'Board you can not use a 10/100 T Base LAN Card as it will not work with the M'Boards On Board LAN Adapter even if it isn't currently working/You need to get the same type of LAN Card as the M'Board has or it will not work and will stop the other one built into the M'Board from working as well.

is right I missed the 1 by the video card.

Remove the Card and reconnect back to Onboard. I think that should solve the network card problem, you may have to reinstall it.
