Video Problems on my Desktop

By mizzoualums ·
I was having video display problems on my monitor - intermittant lines throughout the picture, and finally no video at all. I cleaned out the tower and removed the video card. I found dust across a few of the 184 pins on the card and cleaned and reinstalled. Everything work for about an hour, and again the video failed. I am very suspect of the video card and think a new card will most likely fix the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Try another monitor first.

Hi,

If you can, try another monitor before rushing out to buy a video card, to be sure that it isn't the monitor thats faulty.

Video card is suspect

I have seen dust and dirt cause heat failures and even force some chips to become heat susceptable, that is they are heating up more than normal. A can of freeze spray could pinpoint the chip, but won't help fix it unless you can decipher the chip number and find a supplier. Then there's the actual replacement of the chip. Good luck.
