Video Stabilizer vs HFC ability

Greets All-

As the eternal networking student, I have a question for the masses again; in this term, regarding the HFC network’s ability to “see” beyond their demarc into my house (where demarc is the cable box).

Think of how the PPV reporting works…it’s an upstream connection to report the ‘buys’ activity, but it’s not based on a timer, just a connection…UDP type or so I would think…not that it’s IP based…at least not yet.

My question in more detail…

Say someone is using a Video Stabilizer to record TV shows from standard cable or premium on-demand types; if the stabilizer unit is placed in-line after/behind the cable box, before the dvd recorder, can the absence of, or filtering or attempted filtering or macrovision be reported through an upstream connection in the same way as PPV reporting would to the HFC? If so, what mechanics or protocol would be in play here? What else could emulate this behavior or activity?

I’d be most curious on your thoughts!
