I want to see IP addresses and client names for the clients on my network (PCs and thin clients). I've found programs that let me see IPs and computer names on PCs, but not the names of thin client devices. What I'm basically looking for is the information that I can see in MS's DHCP Manager (plus the few devices we have with static addresses), but in a file format in which I can manipulate the information (e.g., spreadsheet or standard database format). Is there something that will allow meto do this, either gather the information itself or let me export the DHCP database to a program that allows me to manipulate the data?

ok...
I am not sure what exactly you want ...
first you download a software named aperio( its a frree ware).
Aperio gives you thre choices during installation.
1. server
2. scanner
3. editor.

on all the clients you install only the scanner. on the PC which you use or you want to monitor .. install all the three.
it will give you all the details of PC's in your network ( where ever aperio scanner is installed) like the Physical RAM and IP address and MAC address, PLUS the softwares installed on the PC's.
when you export you can export only to a text file. make a little more effor and copyu paste it from the text file to the spread sheet.

if you have found any other better device please lemme know.

Installing software on clients will make this a much more involved effort than I need for it to be (unfortunately we don't push software to our clients yet). Thanks for the answer, though.

Fluke Networks makes a product that is called Network Inspector that will do that and more. I believe they have a trialware version on their web site or they will mail you a cd of it.

This program is probably overkill. I just want a list of thin clients, PCs, and the IP address associated with each. I see this information in DHCP Manager, but I need it in a text or database file that I can edit. I appreciate the answer, though.

You can play a little with this idea and see if it works for you. put this in a .bat or .cmd file for NT of 2K.
---------
@echo off
net view /domain:%userdomain%> %systemdrive%\netview.txt
cls
echo. Remove the first 4 lines of the file and do areplace on all "\\"
echo. with a space then a backspace and save and exit.
pause
call notepad %systemdrive%\netview.txt
for /f "tokens=*" %%a in ('type %systemdrive%\netview.txt') do ping %%a>> %systedrive%\%userdomain%.txt
call notepad %systemdrive%\%userdomain%.txt
exit
----------
You can always replace the variables if you want.

Thanks, but this only showed me servers or other devices running Windows NT. I needed a list of all clients. We wound up using some network monitoring software that we have to do this.
