Virtual desktops and ‘ghost’ Excel task bar icon.

by charliespencer . Updated 17 years, 2 months ago

Anybody else ever see a problem with MS Excel leaving a ‘ghost’ task bar icon on virtual desktops? Regardless of which virtual desktop I have Excel open on, I get an Excel icon on the taskbar on each and every desktop.

Depending on the VD manager, the icon may do different things: nothing; pull Excel to the current desktop from the original one; or put Excel into ‘full screen’ mode.

I’ve tried several virtual desktop managers for MS Windows over the years, but all of the ones I’ve used regularly do this. It happens in both XP and Vista, at home and at work. It happens with Excel 97, 2003, and 2007. Clearly the problem is with Excel, since I don’t have it with other apps. It’s not critical, but I get tired of seeing a minimized Excel icon and wondering what I have open.
