Virtual Machine inside a Virtual Machine

By uppulurivasu ·
Hello Guys,

I have been searching for a answer on this concept. The following in the concept explained can you kindly let me know the pros and cons with this concept.
CONCEPT: Machine A (Intel Core2Duo 2.4 Ghz with Intel VT, 4 GB DDR2 RAM @ 667Mhz FSB, 250 GB SATA HDD) installed with VMWare Workstation 6.0, there is a Windows 2003 Virtual machine (VM) running on VMWare Workstation. Is it possible to install Virtual PC (or) Virtual Server (or) VMWare Server (or) VMWare Workstation on the VM running on VMware workstation running on Machine A.

If its possible what are the possible bottlenecks in the implication and how many VM's can be run on the VM running on Machine A, if its not possible can you please let me know what needs to be done and which software support this technology.

but, you are asking others to do your work for you. While I am investigating this issue for my own purposes, on my own time. It is the research that I have to do. You should do the same and then you could answer a question that will take hours, if not 100's of hours to resolve.

As to how many VM's you can use, it depends on how finely you want to divide your system clock time and how much ram you can install or support or afford.

Why would you want to create a virtual machine as a guest under the 2003 guest vm, instead of creating it as a guest under the VMWare Workstation host?

I can not answer for the guy above that requested someone else do his work for him. As for myself, I am looking for security problems related to VM's in and outside of the native OS. I am also looking for translation difficulties between OS's. I have had a few tests get away (become out of control of anything but the off switch). In he future it may be very likely that someone will run several VM's as servers inside some OS. It depends on where the core race goes. It may be better to be able to answer the question before it arises.

Why is this starting to sound like a turtles all the way down thing?

Sorry you guys again.

But, now I'm trying to think of a reason to try this. :)
