Virtual memory

According to Si Soft sandra 2001TE standard I should alter my virtual memory settings from windows managed to userdefined and set it at the rate of 2 x RAM Mb. I have heard that by altering this it could be detrimental to my system, anythoughts, pros or cons on this ??
