Best bet is to boot into safe mode and then run AVG virus scan.

Most viruses will put things in the startup so scanners can't remove the files because they are in use. Safe mode bypasses the startup files.

Reboot your PC and right before you see the windows screen popup press F8 to get the boot menu. Then select safe mode.

And adding to Dave's commnet, you may need to turn off system restore if you have ME or XP before you scan.

Also some Virus load into Memory on initial Startup of the system and these are particularly nasty ones to remove. If working in Safe Mode with System Restore Turned Off doesn't do the trick you'll have to make up a Bootable Virus Scanner CD to clean up the system. I believe that the AVG Pro has this option though as I don't use it I'm not sure.

The fact that your antivirus program found trojans and could not remove says a few things.

1. Your anti virus program may not be as good as you think it is. Refer to http://tinyurl.com/es95s. You may want to run both 30-day trial version of Kaspersky and Virobot from Hauri.

2. There is no one antivirus program that will detect and remove all the viruses out there. I strongly recommend you to keep one of those listed in the above site. When I scan for virus in a system, I run at least three antivirus programs. Of course, I uninstall the current one before install the next.
