    virus???

    Locked

    by smilee279 ·

I have a question out to anyone who’s experienced this. I’ve now had to instances of pc’s that I’ve troubleshooted, where the system is fine one min., and the next, it shuts down by itself, and then upon reboot it appears as if the h/d is completely blank. Has anyone else heard of this happening? If so, are there any troublehshooting tips to recovery of the data, or is it gone for good?

I’ve seen something similar several times, all with HP computers- Intel 810 or 815 chipset. Has something to do with the capacitors gettings over charged. Fix: unplug pc and hold in power button for 30 seconds to a minute. discharges the capacitors and you are back in business. you can also unplug P8/P9. Often, the symptom was no os found or blinking cursor on black screen. Always appeared as if the os was hosed. It’s one of the first things I try on odd-ball power/hdd issues.
      have fun,

Could be one of two issues: The CPU is overheating (make sure that you have a fan and a heat sink on the CPU) or it could be a grounding issue. Make sure the motherboard is not touching any metal parts or touching the case.

      Hope this helps.
