We have 30 machines that are used as primary workstations and over 100 workstations/servers that are used for development (Testing, Support and QA). It is easy for me to justify the need (and cost) for virus protection on these primary workstations, but hard to swallow the cost of protecting the entire environment.
To put this in perspective one of the products that I was looking at would cost about $2000 to cover our production systems and over $8000 to cover the production and development systems.
I do not intend to leave the development systems unprotected, but would like to find a reliable solution that won’t break the bank.
I would be willing to use two different products in the production and development environments, but most of the major players seem to be priced (and licensed)about the same.
Does anyone know of any virus defense gems that might help me to secure my development environment at a more reasonable price? This could be accomplished with a lower unit price, per user or per site licensing or ???
