Virus Unkown

By red_lucas ·
I am using wireless tiscali broadband on a windows xp pc. And when browsing internet explorer about 70% of the pages i view dont display and shows 'The page cannot be displayed' page, and after going back re-selecting the link or pressing refresh 4 or 5 times the page (sometimes) displays. The pages i am viewing are regular pages such as, etc. And i have scaned my computer with up-to-date norton scanes and found no virus. Although when i go onto task manager and end 1 of the 7 svhost.exe tasks a box is displayed 'nt authority system' sytem restart count down, just like a worm. Whats going on?

svchost.exe is not a worm (but can be attacked/exploted by a worm), you need this proccess and should not shut it down. check out links below.

Have you tried using a diffrent browser. say firefox.

You could also install the latest I.E patches and updates.

Svchost.exe is also a process which is registered as the Trojan.W32.Dasher.

Reboot in Safe Mode with Networking, turn off System Restore, download/install/update/scan with Microsoft AntiSpyware and Spybot (and your AV program) deleting anything they find, rescan to make sure they find zero problems the second time, reboot.

Turn System Restore back on.
