I've upgraded my Win95 OSR2 machines from VirusScan 4.5 to VirusScan 4.5.1sp1 + 4160 hotfix. Since then they've become unstable. They occasionally lock up on login, and consistently freeze or lockup when printing to NetWare queues or writing to NetWare drives. This happens to a newly-loaded machine as well as to those in the field. VirusScan has also flat-out broken several network apps; all problems disappear by disabling VirusScan.
I've updated to Novell Client 3.32sp1, reapplied the VirusScan hotfix, turned off outgoing scanning, all to no effect. VirusScan 4.5 ran without a hiccup for a year, but NAI no longer supports it so I'm forced to upgrade.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Any ideas for a fix?

Yes you do need to update the version of virus scan to higher than 4.5.1, this version will no longer work well with the dat files etc. The 4160 patch is supposed t oget rid of the BSOF, pauses/lockups and loss of time. But if you applied any of thedat files later than 5/02 then you'll have issues.
The problem is with the static VXD files. One or more of these drivers are probably corrupt.
The thing to do is uninstall McAfee and get everything back up and running.
When you applied the 4160 hotfix did you use the /f option. If you had previously updated the install to the 4160 engine then applied the hotfix it may not have updated all the Mcafee files rerun the hotfix with the /f option and see if that helps. Also on 95 machines I've noticed that sometimes you have to change the DOS scan in autoexec.bat to prevent problems. Try remming the DOS statement out and try if the reapply of the hotfix doesn't work. Another thing is what do you have in config.sys? if you have file and buffer settings try remming them out unless they are req for a legacy app then increase them to the Max ie files=255 and buffers=80 and retry. Another thing to try is install IE 5.5 SP2 as this will update the VM.
